Shimla: Most parts of Himachal Pradesh, including the state capital Shimla, remained under overcast skies since morning, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a yellow alert for several districts.

Thunderstorm, Lightning Likely in Five Districts

The IMD has forecast thunderstorms and lightning in parts of Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Chamba, and Shimla districts. Strong winds with speeds ranging between 30 to 40 kmph are also expected during this period.

Light Drizzle Expected in Higher Reaches

Light drizzle is likely in higher altitude areas of Lahaul-Spiti, Chamba, Kullu, Kinnaur, and Kangra on April 12, while other regions are expected to remain largely clear.

Clear Weather Forecast for April 13–14

Weather conditions across the state are expected to improve significantly on April 13 and 14, bringing clear skies, bright sunshine, and relief from the prevailing cold conditions.

Western Disturbance to Impact Weather Again

A fresh Western Disturbance is expected to become active on April 15, which may bring light drizzle to higher elevations. Weather conditions are likely to remain unstable in higher and mid-hill regions on April 16 as well.

Temperature Rises but Remains Below Normal

Over the past 24 hours, the state recorded a rise of 3.2 degrees Celsius in average maximum temperatures. However, temperatures still remain 2.7 degrees below normal.

Among key locations, Kangra recorded a maximum temperature of 26.0°C (6.1 degrees below normal), Nahan 24.3°C (5.4 degrees below normal), Una 28.4°C (4.4 degrees below normal), and Dharamshala 22.0°C (3.1 degrees below normal).

Above-Normal Rainfall Recorded in April

Himachal Pradesh has already received significantly higher rainfall this month. Between April 1 and 10, the state recorded 55.4 mm of rainfall against the normal of 22.9 mm—an excess of 142 percent, according to the Meteorological Department.
