Yellow alert issued for cold wave in Punjab today; Adampur remains coldest @ 2 degrees

A cold wave is currently sweeping across Punjab and Chandigarh. The morning and evening temperatures have dropped significantly, and there is also light fog. A yellow alert for a cold wave has been issued for eight districts today. The minimum temperature has fallen by 0.4 degrees and is now 2 degrees below normal.

Adampur and Faridkot were the coldest places in Punjab, recording minimum temperatures of 2 and 3 degrees Celsius respectively. The air quality in Chandigarh is more polluted than in Punjab. At 6 AM, Chandigarh’s AQI was recorded at 222.

Cold Wave Alert in Eight Districts

A western disturbance is hovering over Punjab at an altitude of approximately 3 kilometers. This has created two weather systems in the atmosphere, which are likely to bring clouds and cold winds in the coming days. A cold wave alert is in effect today for Firozpur, Faridkot, Muktsar, Fazilka, Bathinda, Moga, Jalandhar, and Mansa, all bordering Rajasthan.

According to the Meteorological Department, the weather will remain clear on the Delhi-Ambala and Amritsar-Ambala highways.
Air Quality Deteriorating in All Cities of Punjab

At 7 AM, Amritsar’s AQI was recorded at 112, Jalandhar at 155, Khanna at 162, Ludhiana at 151, Mandi Gobindgarh at 207, and Patiala at 144. Meanwhile, in Chandigarh, Sector-22 recorded an AQI of 222, Sector-25 at 212, and Sector-53 at 213.
