Yellow alert issued for rain and hailstorms in Punjab from today; Adampur remains coldest

The weather in Punjab and Chandigarh is expected to change from today (Thursday). There is a possibility of continuous lightning, rain, hailstorms, and strong winds (up to 50 to 60 km per hour) for two days. The Chandigarh Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert in this regard.

Although the maximum temperature has decreased slightly by 0.1 degrees Celsius in the last 24 hours, it remains 4.2 degrees above normal. The lowest minimum temperature in the plains was recorded at 2.6 degrees Celsius in Adampur, while the maximum temperature was recorded at 25.4 degrees Celsius.

Where is rain expected today?

According to the Meteorological Department, light to moderate rain is likely in some places today in Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ferozepur, Moga, Rupnagar, Fazilka, Faridkot, Muktsar, Bathinda, Ludhiana, Barnala, Mansa, Sangrur, Fatehgarh Sahib, Patiala, and SAS Nagar (Mohali).

Meanwhile, very dense fog was observed in some parts of the state during the last 24 hours. Visibility was recorded at 0 meters in Bathinda, while it was 50 meters each in Amritsar and Ludhiana. The minimum temperature in many places in the state remained between 5 and 9 degrees Celsius. The lowest temperature in the plains was recorded at 2.6 degrees Celsius in Adampur.

Temperature to rise, rain expected

According to Surendra Pal, Director of the Meteorological Department, the peak period of cold weather is over and there is no possibility of extreme cold anymore. The Western Disturbance has moved towards the mountains. Light to moderate rain is possible in many places on January 22. While light to moderate rain is expected in most parts of the state on January 23. Rain is likely in only a few places on January 24 and 26. Light rain is also possible in some places on January 27. There will be no significant change in minimum temperatures over the next 24 hours. Following this, temperatures may rise by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius over the next 48 hours, before falling again afterwards.
