Yellow alert for rain in Punjab, Ravi-Ujj-Chakki rivers in spate

A yellow alert has been issued for rain in Punjab today. Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, and Rupnagar, adjoining Himachal Pradesh, are likely to receive more than normal rainfall, and this weather may continue for the next 24 hours.

After the rain in Jammu and Kashmir, the water level in Ranjit Sagar Dam has reached the danger mark of 527 meters. Due to this additional water has been released, increasing the risk of floods in the Majha region of Punjab. The water level of the Ravi River is continuously rising, which has led to the closure of the Pathankot-Jammu highway and the issuance of a high alert from Pathankot to Amritsar.

People in Ajnala have been prohibited from going near the river. Due to the rise in water in the Ravi, Ujj and Chakki rivers in Gurdaspur, flood-like situation has arisen in many areas. Makoda port, the confluence of Ravi and Ujj rivers in Dinanagar, has been flooded and seven villages on the Pakistan border, namely Toor, Chebe, Mammi Chakk Ranga, Bhariyal, Lasiyan, Jhumbar and Kajla, have lost contact with the rest of the area.

Drop in temperature

In the past few days, 7 mm of rain was recorded in Amritsar, Punjab, 53.4 mm in Ludhiana, 3.4 mm in Patiala, 14.5 in Fazilka, 67 mm in Ferozepur, 23.5 mm in Mohali and 32.5 mm in Pathankot. After which, the temperature of the state has increased by 2.8 degrees. This temperature is considered to be 2.6 degrees higher than normal.

A new round of rain will start from 29th

Alert regarding rain is still issued in Punjab tomorrow. There are chances of good rain again in Hoshiarpur, Gurdaspur, Pathankot and Rupnagar today. But after that, the weather is expected to remain normal for two days i.e. Wednesday and Thursday. But a new phase of rain will start from Friday.
