Young man assaults doctor at Ludhiana Civil Hospital: slaps him twice, action demanded

Late Wednesday night, a young man allegedly assaulted a doctor who was on duty at the Civil Hospital in Ludhiana. Following the incident, a large number of doctors and healthcare workers gathered at the scene. Upon receiving information about the matter, police from Division No. 2 Police Station arrived at the hospital to conduct an investigation.

According to reports, at approximately 11:15 PM, a doctor posted in the Maternity and Child Care Department entered the ward to conduct a routine inspection. During this time, he observed an unidentified young man inside the ward recording a video of a child. The doctor asked the young man to explain why he was recording the video. He also instructed him to stop doing so, which led to a heated argument between the two.

Physical Altercation with the Doctor

According to eyewitnesses, the dispute escalated to such an extent that the young man lost his temper; he shoved the doctor and slapped him twice. Upon receiving news of the assault on the doctor, medical professionals and healthcare staff from various departments—including the Emergency Ward—rushed to the scene and expressed their outrage over the incident. A tense atmosphere prevailed within the hospital premises for some time.

Information Gathered from the Scene

Responding to the report of the incident, Sub-Inspector Gurdev Singh of Division No. 2 Police Station arrived at the hospital with a police team. Upon reaching the scene, the police questioned both parties involved and recorded the statements of those present. Additionally, other relevant details regarding the incident were gathered from the site.

Demand for Strict Action Against the Accused

At the time of writing, the police were actively investigating the matter, and no formal case had been registered against either party. Meanwhile, the doctors and staff of the hospital have expressed their indignation over the assault on a physician while on duty and have demanded strict action against the accused.
