Chandigarh Police arrested a young man from West Bengal on Thursday night in connection with a threat to blow up the Punjab Civil Secretariat with a bomb. After being produced in court, the accused was remanded to police custody for one day.
According to the police, an FIR was registered at the Sector-3 police station regarding the incident. During the investigation, Sourav Biswas was arrested on charges of sending the threatening email. A case has been registered against him under relevant sections of the BNS (Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita) and the IT Act, and further investigation is underway.
Accused Resides in West Bengal
During the investigation, the police discovered that Sourav Biswas a resident of Gobind Palli, Palli Bazar in the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal had sent an email threatening a bomb blast to the official email ID of the Punjab Civil Secretariat. Upon receiving the email, security agencies and the police were alerted, and an investigation was launched given the gravity of the matter.
Based on technical analysis, email tracking, and other digital evidence, the police located and arrested the accused. He is currently being interrogated to determine the motive behind sending the threatening email and to ascertain whether any other individuals are involved in the case.
Interrogation to Reveal Details
Following the arrest, Chandigarh Police produced the accused, Sourav Biswas, before a local court. The police sought his remand to further the investigation; the court granted the request and remanded him to police custody for one day. During this period, the police will attempt to find out why he sent the threatening email to the Punjab Civil Secretariat.
The police are also investigating the accused’s motive and whether he acted alone or at the behest of another person. Additionally, they are trying to identify the device and internet connection used to send the email and determine if an organized network or other accomplices are involved.
