Youtuber Jasbir Singh accused of spying for Pak gets bail from High Court

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has granted regular bail to YouTuber Jasbir Singh, who is facing serious charges of espionage and sharing sensitive information. The High Court has granted bail to Jasbir Singh, a YouTuber from Chamkaur Sahib, who was arrested in June last year on charges of spying for Pakistan.

Jasbir Singh was accused of visiting Pakistan several times, maintaining constant contact with Pakistani intelligence agencies and sharing information about important Indian places and military activities.

After reviewing the details of the video, the High Court ruled that he had uploaded videos of Bhakra Dam and Mohali airport. The Bhakra Dam video was uploaded before 2024, when Section 152 of the IPC was not notified, and the Supreme Court had banned the offence of sedition at that time.

Thus, he cannot be legally charged under this section. Under the Official Secrets Act, the Punjab government is required to take permission from the central government, which was not done. The information shared on him is easily accessible to the public.

Regarding the allegation of having links with Pakistani intelligence agencies, no evidence was presented. Therefore, the High Court granted bail to Jasbir Singh after ten months of custody and despite lack of evidence.
