Punjab Desk: The government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has turned the dream of affordable and reliable electricity into reality in Punjab. Since July 2022, domestic consumers have been receiving 300 units of free electricity per month, providing relief to millions of families.
According to official data, households are saving 1,500 Rupees to 2,000 Rupees every month on average. Gurmeet Kaur from Jalandhar shares, “Earlier, my monthly bill used to be around ₹2,000. Now, with a zero bill, I can use that amount for my children’s education.” The agricultural sector is also directly benefiting from this policy. Amrik Singh, a farmer from Fatehgarh Sahib, says that 24-hour uninterrupted power supply for irrigation has reduced dependence on generators and diesel, significantly lowering expenses.
To enhance the state’s power capacity, the government has acquired the 540 MW Goindwal Thermal Plant in Tarn Taran, which has been renamed the Sri Guru Amardas Thermal Power Plant. Spread over 1,100 acres, the plant is becoming a crucial pillar in Punjab’s journey toward energy self-reliance. Chief Minister Mann stated, “Our goal is not just free electricity, but a power system that makes life easier for the people and strengthens the state’s economy
