Zubeen Garg’s Death Was “Plain and Simple Murder,” Says Assam CM Himanta Sarma

Assam: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma told the Assembly on Tuesday that the death of renowned singer Zubeen Garg in Singapore was not accidental but an outright case of murder.

Without disclosing further details, he said the motive behind the killing would be shocking for the people of Assam.

According to Sarma, the initial findings of the Assam Police indicated that the incident did not amount to culpable homicide but pointed directly to murder.

Seven Arrested, SIT Examines 252 Witnesses

Zubeen Garg, known for his popular Bollywood and Assamese music, died on September 19 while swimming near an island in Singapore, where he was scheduled to perform at the North East India Festival.

The Special Investigation Team has so far arrested seven individuals and questioned over 250 witnesses.

Sarma informed the Assembly that one person was responsible for the killing while others assisted, and several individuals are being charged in the case.

Confusion and Theories Surround High-Profile Case

The high-profile investigation has led to multiple arrests, including the singer’s manager Siddharth Sharma, festival organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta, and his cousin, DSP Sandipan Garg.

A variety of theories have emerged regarding the circumstances of Zubeen’s death, with allegations ranging from negligence by his team to claims that he was poisoned.

One of his bandmates even alleged that the killing was planned abroad to conceal evidence.
