11-Year-Old Boy Drowns in Gill Canal in Ludhiana, Body Recovered After Search Operation

Ludhiana: An 11-year-old boy died after drowning in the Gill Canal in Ludhiana. The child, who had gone missing on Tuesday morning after leaving home to bathe in the canal, was found dead on Wednesday evening following a prolonged search operation.

The deceased has been identified as Taranjit Singh (11). According to his father, Taranjit had gone to the Gill Canal on Tuesday morning for a bath but did not return home by evening. Concerned family members launched a search and looked for him at several places, but when no clue was found, the police were informed.

A search operation was launched in the canal on Wednesday, and after hours of efforts, the child’s body was recovered around 5:30 p.m.

Family Suffers Another Tragedy Months After Daughter’s Death

The incident has left the family devastated. Taranjit’s father works as a daily wage labourer and supports the family through manual work, while his mother is a homemaker.

Taranjit was the youngest among his siblings and was considered the most beloved member of the family. He was still studying in school.

The family had already suffered a major tragedy earlier this year. In February, Taranjit’s elder sister died due to a serious illness.

Grief-Stricken Parents Collapse After Body Recovered

The family’s eldest daughter, aged 16, had passed away just a few months ago, leaving the family emotionally shattered. Now, after Taranjit’s death, only the middle son, Karandeep (14), remains in the family.

As soon as news of Taranjit’s body being recovered from the canal reached the house on Wednesday evening, the family broke down in grief. His parents reportedly became inconsolable and collapsed after hearing the news.

    Police Begin Investigation into Incident

Local police initiated action soon after receiving information about the incident. Investigating officer Harbans Singh said that a search operation was launched immediately after the child was reported missing and fears were raised that he may have drowned in the canal.

After extensive efforts, divers managed to recover the body from the canal late on Wednesday evening.

Police have taken custody of the body and shifted it to the mortuary. Statements of family members are being recorded, and further legal action will be taken accordingly
