1,746 Youths Join Punjab Police, CM Bhagwant Mann Hands Over Appointment Letters

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Thursday handed over appointment letters to 1,746 youths joining the Punjab Police at the PAP Ground in Phillaur. The Chief Minister said the state government is providing employment opportunities to young people through a transparent and merit-based recruitment process.

He said 13,092 personnel have been recruited into the Punjab Police over the last four-and-a-half years, while the recruitment process for another 3,298 constables is currently underway. In addition, 70,840 youths have so far been provided government jobs purely on merit.

1,600 New Posts Approved in Punjab Police

The Chief Minister said 1,600 new district-cadre posts have been approved in the Punjab Police. These include 150 Inspectors, 450 Sub-Inspectors and 1,000 Assistant Sub-Inspectors. The posts will be filled through departmental promotions, providing serving police personnel with opportunities for career advancement.

CM Mann Urges New Recruits to Serve with Honesty

Addressing the passing-out parade of 1,746 newly recruited constables, CM Bhagwant Mann congratulated the recruits and their families. He urged the new police personnel to serve the people with dedication, professionalism and complete honesty.

He said the responsibility of the Punjab Police extends beyond maintaining law and order within the state, as the force also plays an important role in protecting the country. Punjab shares around a 532-kilometre international border, making the role of its police force particularly significant.

Focus on Modernising the Police Force

Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said the Punjab Police is being modernised in line with emerging challenges, particularly in investigation, science and technology.

He said that since 2022, more than 15,000 appointment letters have been issued in the police force. New and modern vehicles are also being provided to police personnel to help them perform their duties more efficiently.

Punjab’s Dedicated Road Safety Force Making a Difference

The Chief Minister Bhagwant  Singh Mann also highlighted the role of Punjab’s Sadak Surakhya Force (SSF), launched to improve road safety and save precious lives on highways.

He said specially trained personnel, including women, have been equipped with modern vehicles and deployed across approximately 4,200 kilometres of accident-prone highways.

According to the official briefing, the formation of the SSF has resulted in a 52.87% reduction in road accident deaths. CM Mann said the force is also helping deter traffic violations and making Punjab’s roads safer.

New Police Personnel Asked to Put Public Welfare First

Chief Minister Bhagwant  Singh Mann urged the newly recruited personnel to use their positions to help needy and underprivileged sections of society. He said the welfare of the general public and ensuring justice should remain the foremost priorities of every police officer.

He said the Punjab Government is committed to building a stronger, modern and accountable police force capable of protecting the state’s peace and security while strengthening public confidence.

Cabinet Minister Mohinder Bhagat, Chief Secretary K.A.P. Sinha, DGP Gaurav Yadav and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.
