Navjot Kaur Sidhu Praises Narendra Modi, Slams Rahul Gandhi Over Punjab Congress

In a sharp political critique in Coimbatore, former Congress leader Navjot Kaur Sidhu publicly praised Narendra Modi for his “clean image” while launching a blistering attack on Rahul Gandhi, whom she accused of weakening the Congress in Punjab. Sidhu’s remarks come amid escalating tensions within the party and highlight growing internal discord.

Speaking to media, Sidhu claimed that unlike many political figures, the Prime Minister has no personal corruption allegations against him and described him as a “spiritual man” with integrity. “You can point a finger at PM Modi. Try to touch him. Does he have a penny? Does he have a file against him? There is nothing against him,” she said, urging critics to find any wrongdoing.

    Accusations of Disconnect and Corruption

Sidhu didn’t hold back in her criticism of Rahul Gandhi. She alleged that he is “disconnected from ground realities” and unaware of what is unfolding within the party’s Punjab unit, which she says has resulted in organisational collapse. Sidhu even claimed his inaction is “killing Congress in Punjab.”

“Rahul Gandhi talks well, but what he does and what he says are very different,” Sidhu said, accusing his close aides of corruption and selling election tickets — damaging the party’s credibility and prospects. She emphasised that leadership requires awareness of grassroots challenges, something she believes Gandhi lacks.

    Promises Unfulfilled and Grassroots Disconnect

Sidhu also raised personal grievances, saying that promises made to her regarding key political positions were not honoured. She claimed assurances of a deputy chief minister post with seven departments and a parliamentary seat were never delivered. Instead, she alleges she was sidelined while honest leaders were ignored in favour of those she describes as corrupt.

She also criticized Gandhi’s delayed response to her requests for a meeting over eight months, saying it demonstrated a lack of engagement with party workers trying to flag internal concerns. “If you are not aware of what is happening beneath you, then you do not deserve that chair,” she said.

Political Implications for Congress in Punjab

Sidhu’s remarks underscore deepening rifts within the Congress, particularly in a crucial state like Punjab where the party’s organizational strength has been under scrutiny. Her critique on leadership and internal corruption feeds into a broader narrative of dissatisfaction within party ranks, posing challenges as elections approach.

The Congress leadership has not yet issued an official response to her comments. However, observers say Sidhu’s outspoken stance reflects broader unease about leadership accountability and electoral strategy within the party’s state apparatus.
