Punjab Governor Reviews Preparations for 2027 Asian Relay Championships in Chandigarh

Chandigarh, June 26: Chandigarh has begun preparations for the 2027 Asian Relay Championships after securing the hosting rights for the prestigious continental athletics event. Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria said the administration has already initiated planning by holding a series of high-level meetings with officials from various departments to ensure the event is organised successfully.

High-Level Meetings Held

Speaking on the preparations, Kataria said two meetings have already been conducted involving all key stakeholders, including officials from the Union Territory administration, the Chandigarh Police, the Municipal Corporation, and other concerned agencies.

He said discussions focused on the initial roadmap for hosting the championship, with emphasis on coordination among departments to ensure seamless execution of the event.

“We have already held two meetings involving all concerned officials, including those from the Union Territory administration, the police department, and other agencies. We have also met with the municipal authorities and the local administration to discuss the initial preparations,” Kataria said.

Focus on Security and Infrastructure

The Governor said the administration has reviewed all the requirements that need to be fulfilled before the championship, including comprehensive security arrangements, accommodation for athletes and officials, transportation, medical facilities, and other essential services.

He stressed that every aspect of the event is being examined in detail to ensure that international standards are maintained throughout the championship.

According to Kataria, discussions have also covered infrastructure development, venue readiness, logistics management, traffic planning, and emergency response mechanisms.

Coordinated Efforts Across Departments

Kataria highlighted that multiple government departments will work together to deliver a world-class sporting event. Coordination between the administration, civic bodies, law enforcement agencies, and other stakeholders will be crucial in ensuring smooth conduct of the championship.

He added that officials have already started identifying the requirements of each department so that preparations can be carried out in a time-bound manner.

The administration is expected to prepare a comprehensive action plan covering venue upgrades, hospitality arrangements, transportation networks, volunteer management, and public services well ahead of the event.
