‘Mukhyamantri Sehat Yojana’ 4-month-old Diljot; over 6,000 newborns treated for free in three months

The treatment was extremely expensive, and raising such a large sum was not easy for the family. In this difficult time, the Punjab government’s ‘Mukhyamantri Sehat Yojana’ proved to be a great help. The total cost of Diljot’s treatment was ₹2.77 lakh, but the entire expense was covered under the scheme. The baby is now healthy following the treatment, bringing immense relief to the family. In the last three months alone, over 6,000 cases involving newborns have been treated under the ‘Mukhyamantri Sehat Yojana’.

Baby treated at two hospitals

Diljot’s father, Bharat Kumar, runs a small salon in Abohar. He shared that his daughter underwent treatment at two different hospitals. Due to the baby’s critical condition, the treatment costs were high, but thanks to the ‘Mukhyamantri Sehat’ card, they did not have to pay the amount out of their own pockets. The family was already distressed over their daughter’s illness and worried about the treatment costs, but the government scheme alleviated the financial burden.

Under the ‘Mukhyamantri Sehat Yojana’, eligible families can avail cashless medical treatment worth up to ₹10 lakh annually. The scheme covers treatment at both government hospitals and empanelled private hospitals. Notably, the scheme includes provisions for essential medical care for newborns right from the beginning of their lives. It is proving helpful to families in treating conditions such as low birth weight, premature birth, infections, and other serious health issues.

Government running awareness campaigns in villages

Punjab’s Health and Family Welfare Minister, Balbir Singh, stated that the government is conducting awareness campaigns in rural areas. The objective is to raise awareness about the importance of timely health check-ups and avoiding delays in treatment during illness. Over the past three months, more than 6,000 newborns have received treatment under the Chief Minister’s Health Scheme (*Mukhyamantri Sehat Yojana*). The government is committed to ensuring that no child or mother is denied treatment due to financial constraints.

Newborn in Bathinda Receives Treatment Worth ₹1 Lakh

A newborn treated at Aggarwal Hospital in Bathinda is among the beneficiaries of the Chief Minister’s Health Scheme. Shortly after birth, the infant developed serious complications, including jaundice and breathing difficulties. Given the severity of the condition, the baby underwent treatment at the hospital. The total cost of treatment was approximately ₹1 lakh, which was covered under the scheme, providing significant financial relief to the family.

Child from Patiala Also Benefits from the Scheme

Mankirat Singh, a resident of Gadhaya village in Patiala, also faced health issues a few days after birth. He suffered from jaundice and breathing difficulties, necessitating medical intervention. His father, Balwinder Singh, stated that the baby was born on March 25.

The family was deeply concerned about the infant’s health and the potential cost of treatment. However, the entire expense was covered under the Chief Minister’s Health Scheme. This relieved the family of the financial burden and ensured the child received timely medical care.

Treatment Underway for 18-Day-Old Infant in Kotkapura

Bimla Rani, a resident of Kotkapura in Faridkot, recently gave birth to a baby who required specialized neonatal care. According to the family, the 18-day-old infant is currently undergoing treatment under the Chief Minister’s Health Scheme. The scheme focuses on the health of both the newborn and the mother.

The government reports that since the scheme’s implementation, many families in Punjab are promptly taking mothers and newborns to the hospital after delivery. In numerous instances, they are receiving medical care within the critical first 72 hours. It is worth noting that at the launch of the scheme, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann told the public that they need not worry about medical expenses. The government’s objective is to ensure that a lack of funds does not become a barrier to medical treatment for any family.
