Agra, april 20: The statue of Baba Saheb Ambedkar was damaged in Ambedkar Park in Agra. Some Miscreants broke the finger of the statue late on Sunday night and also damaged the face. The villagers were angry after seeing the statue in the morning. The local people sat on a dharna. The police station in-charge who reached the spot calmed the villagers. He instructed to take action against the culprits who committed this act as soon as possible. At the same time, the head of Baba Saheb’s statue has been broken in Sonbhadra too.
Villagers said that this is not the first incident. Earlier on April 15, miscreants had damaged the flags, banners and hoardings of Baba Saheb installed in the same park. They were also threatened over the phone to remove the banners and hoardings.
Locals allege that this act is being done deliberately to spread communal frenzy. They have lodged a written complaint against a suspect.
Demand for installation of CCTV cameras
As soon as the information was received, Fatehpur Sikri police station in-charge Dharmendra Dahiya and Kiravali police station in-charge Kewal Singh reached the spot with the police force. The protesters have demanded the arrest of the culprits, installation of a new statue, street lights and CCTV cameras.
Former president Mohammad Islam, BSP leader Kaptan Singh Chahar and many other leaders and local people were present on the spot. Police has assured of quick action. SDM Rajesh Kumar who reached the spot has said that a new statue will be installed as soon as possible. He has also said that the anarchic elements will be identified and arrested soon.
This is the second incident in a week at this place. On the last Ambedkar Jayanti, posters and banners put up at this place were torn by some unruly element.
The person who is being suspected has been named in the complaint as Jogendra son of Diwan Singh. The angry people suspect this person. This person calls himself the brother of the current Pradhan. A week ago, he had threatened to remove the posters and banners.
