Water crisis in Hisar after Punjab stops supply, advance booking of tankers

Drinking water and irrigation supply is done in Hisar from Barwala Branch, Balsamand Sub Branch and Balsamand Distributory.

Punjab has stopped supplying water to Haryana, due to which the water crisis has deepened in the entire Haryana. Bhakra water comes to Hisar district. Drinking water and irrigation supply is done in Hisar from Barwala Branch, Balsamand Sub Branch and Balsamand Distributory.

At present, only 22 percent of the total capacity of water is running in all three canals. The total capacity of all three canals is 3 thousand cusecs of water, while 670 cusecs of water is coming in them. In such a situation, the current efforts being made to fill the water tanks are inadequate. Due to this, water crisis has arisen in the entire Hisar.

Water is being supplied every second day. After May 3, the canal will remain closed till May 20, after which the water crisis may deepen further. The preparations of the administration for this are not visible on the ground. The administration has not put any kind of rein on the tanker owners. Tanker drivers are collecting money from people at their own will. The situation is such that despite taking money, tanker drivers are not able to fulfill the demand of the people.

The tanker mafia has become fully active for the supply of water. Tanker drivers are charging up to 3 times the money for the supply of water. A water tanker worth Rs. 400 is available for Rs. 1200. The money is being taken according to the capacity of the tanker.

If water has to be supplied to the tank above the houses, then its charges are different and the charges for the underground tank below are different. Apart from this, the tankers installed by the administration are not able to fulfill the demand of the people. According to HSVP, till now they have spent an amount of Rs. 20 lakh on the supply of drinking water through tankers.
