Rampur: In Rampur, Uttar Pradesh, the Special Task Force (STF) arrested Shahzad, suspected to be an agent of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), on Sunday. Based on intelligence inputs, the Moradabad STF detained him for allegedly engaging in cross-border smuggling and espionage activities for the ISI. It is also claimed that Shahzad was transmitting sensitive national security information to his handlers.

Shahzad, a resident of Tanda in Rampur, has reportedly traveled to Pakistan multiple times over the years and was accused of smuggling items such as cosmetics, clothing, spices, and other goods across the border. He has been taken into custody under relevant sections, including those related to espionage.

Additionally, a 24-year-old youth, Nauman Ilahi from Kairana district in Uttar Pradesh, was recently arrested in Panipat, Haryana, for allegedly sharing sensitive information with Pakistani contacts. He was staying with his sister and brother-in-law in Panipat and was said to be in contact with a Pakistani ISI handler.

Earlier, on March 13, the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) detained Ravindra Kumar, a chargeman at the Hazratpur Ordnance Factory in Firozabad, for allegedly sending confidential information to a Pakistani agent who was his Facebook friend. The ATS found sensitive documents on Kumar’s phone that he had shared with the agent, but he couldn’t justify his actions during interrogation. Kumar, who has been working since 2006 and became a chargeman in 2009, reportedly befriended and communicated regularly with a woman named Neha Sharma via Facebook, WhatsApp, and calls, and was motivated by greed to share sensitive data. Despite deleting some chats, the ATS recovered confidential documents from his device.
