Two police officers injured during encounter with notorious criminal in Hapur, Uttar Pradesh

Hapur (Uttar Pradesh): Two police officers, including a constable, were injured during an exchange of fire, in which Naveen Kumar, a notorious sharpshooter affiliated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, was shot and later died from his injuries. The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) and Delhi Police’s Special Cell had received information that the wanted.

The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) and Delhi Police’s Special Cell had received information that the wanted criminal was in Hapur. When they tried to apprehend him, Naveen opened fire on the police. In response, the officers returned fire, injuring him, and he was taken to hospital where he died. Naveen Kumar had over 20 criminal cases registered against him, including murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping, robbery, and cases under the MCOCA. He was also convicted in two cases in Delhi and was known to be an active member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.

This operation was part of ongoing efforts to arrest dangerous criminals. Earlier, on May 28, in a similar incident in Uttar Pradesh, criminal Bhupendra Gwalah was injured during an encounter with Jhansi Police while they attempted to catch him. The police spotted him on a motorcycle during a check, and he fired at officers before fleeing into the jungle. Police recovered a stolen battery, a pistol with cartridges, and a suspicious motorcycle without a number plate from him. The authorities also disclosed that Gwalah had a bounty of Rs 25,000 on him.
