Panaji: In North Goa, police have detained both the owner and the manager of a guest house where three minor girls were allegedly raped by two men. The total number of arrests in connection with the case has now risen to four, officials confirmed on Thursday.
The girls, aged 11, 13, and 15, all residents of the same building, were reportedly assaulted by two men at the guest house in Calangute on June 7 and 8. The older two girls are sisters. Their parents registered complaints on June 8 after the girls went missing the previous day.
Police teams conducted multiple operations and rescued the girls from the guest house on the same day. Along with the two alleged perpetrators, Altaf Mujawar (19) and Om Naik (21), the police also apprehended the guest house owner, Rajat Chauhan (31), and the manager, Mansoor Peer (35), late Wednesday night, explained Superintendent of Police (North) Rahul Gupta.
The authorities stated that the arrests of the owner and manager were made because they hosted the minors without verifying their guardians’ consent, thereby violating legal protocols and facilitating the crime.
All four accused are now booked under relevant legal provisions, including the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and the Goa Children’s Act. The police announced that the guest house is being sealed, and its license will soon be canceled. The management and owners of such facilities will face strict action if found accommodating children without proper verification or guardianship, the SP warned, emphasizing that no facility will be spared in the crackdown.
