The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended three individuals, including the brother of the late Sub-Post Master (SPM) of Lakhaoti, Bulandshahar, in connection with a Rs. 2.5 crore fake postage stamps scam, according to an official statement.
The case was registered on December 19, 2024, after a complaint from the Bulandshahar Postal Department on December 12, 2024. The allegation involves the accused, including the then SPM and a private person, who conspired with unknown public servants and private individuals to misuse fake postage stamps for criminal purposes.
The investigation revealed that between May 2023 and November 2024, the accused booked registered articles worth Rs. 2.78 crore using counterfeit stamps, even though the legitimate sales at Lakhaoti Sub Post Office were only Rs. 28 lakh. This discrepancy caused a wrongful loss of approximately Rs. 2.50 crore to the Postal Department, which was gained unlawfully by the accused and their associates.
During the inquiry, the CBI collected substantial evidence against the suspects. Two of the accused were arrested on Tuesday, followed by the arrest of a third person on Wednesday. All three individuals were produced before the court for further legal proceedings.
