Lucknow: A comprehensive security and surveillance system has been established to oversee the ongoing Kanwar Yatra, with a large deployment of personnel to guarantee the safety of pilgrims and uphold law and order.
A network comprising 29,454 CCTV cameras has been set up along major Kanwar routes and key congregation sites across the state. Additionally, 395 advanced drones, including anti-drones and tethered drones, are providing live video feeds directly to the DGP headquarters. Tethered drones, which are connected to ground power sources, offer longer flight times and greater stability, making them ideal for continuous surveillance in sensitive zones.
A modern control room, modeled after the Mahakumbh security setup, has been established at the DGP headquarters and operates round the clock. This facility enables constant monitoring of the yatra and Shiv temples, allowing swift response to any developing situations.
To tackle misinformation and maintain peace, an eight-member social media monitoring team is actively tracking online content for rumors, false information, and sensitive posts. They alert district authorities to take rapid action and remove objectionable material. Additionally, another control room team manages inputs from electronic media, UP-112, and other communication channels.
To ensure robust security, the Uttar Pradesh government has mobilized 587 gazetted officers, 2,040 inspectors, 13,520 sub-inspectors, and 39,965 constables from police and paramilitary forces. Women sub-inspectors and constables— totaling 1,486 and 8,541 respectively— are also deployed to strengthen law enforcement presence. The security network is further reinforced with 50 companies of PAC and central forces, along with 1,424 home guards.
For better coordination across states, a WhatsApp group comprising officials from Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Delhi, and Rajasthan has been created. This group facilitates real-time sharing of information regarding route conditions, security updates, and crowd control measures to ensure the pilgrimage runs smoothly and safely.
