 SAS Nagar: Making advance preparations for the consumption of crop residues in industries through specially designed boilers, the district administration of Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar has already started preparations to increase its capacity to 4 lakh metric tonnes annually.

 Giving information in this regard, Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain said that the district’s own crop waste is 1.98 lakh metric tons per year, but we are also thinking about the neighboring districts. DC Jain added that with another 0.3 lakh metric tonnes proposed by the upcoming paddy harvesting season, we will be able to use crop residue (paddy straw) as fossil fuel.

  DC Jain reviewed the existing capacity which includes five units to contribute one lakh metric tonnes annually and two other partners Chandigarh Distilleries and Nahar Industries are working on installation of paddy straw fuel based boilers. She said that this will increase the existing capacity to four lakh metric tons.

 The Deputy Commissioner said that apart from this, a new unit with a capacity of 3300 MT per annum is being set up in the district soon to supply straw based pellets to brick kilns.

 The Deputy Commissioner said that according to the capacity of the boiler units, to deal with the shortage of balers, the district will be asked to supply adequate number of baling machines. She asked the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and ADC (Rural Development) to prepare additional estimated number of baler machines; which we need for the upcoming paddy season
