Patwari taking Rs 6,000 bribe caught red-handed by Vigilance Bureau

Ludhiana: During the anti-corruption campaign in the state by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau, Ashok Kumar, the agent of the revenue patwari Chamkaur Singh posted at Giaspura, district Ludhiana, has been caught red-handed for accepting a bribe of Rs. 6,000. In this case, a case of bribery has also been registered against the Patwari who fled away.

Giving information in this regard, the spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau said that the said accused has been arrested based on a complaint lodged by Rakesh Kumar, a resident of village Kuhara, district Ludhiana.

He said that the complainant has approached the Vigilance Bureau and alleged that the patwari and his staff had demanded a bribe of Rs 6,000 from him in exchange for getting copies of the documents related to the transfer of his newly purchased plot and taking a loan on that plot.

The spokesperson further said that after the preliminary investigation of this complaint, the Vigilance Bureau Unit Ludhiana laid a trap and caught Patwari Chamkaur Singh’s private assistant Ashok Kumar red-handed while taking a bribe of Rs 6,000 from the complainant in the presence of two government witnesses.

Efforts are on to arrest the co-accused patwari who escaped from the office. In this regard, a case has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the Vigilance Bureau, Police Station Ludhiana Range and further action has been initiated against the said two accused.
