Public Holiday announced in Malerkotla on occasion of Muharram; schools, banks to remain close

Deputy Commissioner Malerkotla Dr. Pallavi has declared a holiday in the district on the occasion of Muharram (Yom-e-Asura) on July 17

Malerkotla: Schools in the Malerkotla district of Punjab will remain closed tomorrow, i.e. on July 17. A notification in the same regard has been issued by the Deputy Commissioner of the district. In many other states, July 18 has been declared as a holiday in schools.


Deputy Commissioner Malerkotla Dr. Pallavi has declared a holiday in the district on the occasion of Muharram (Yom-e-Asura) on July 17 (Wednesday) under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act 1881.

The Deputy Commissioner said that on July 17, all government/semi-government offices, government/non-government and private educational institutions and banks will remain closed in Malerkotla district.

She said that these orders of leave will not apply to the educational institutions, universities, boards, schools, colleges in which the examinations are going on.
