EC reschedules By-poll in Kerala, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh; polling now on Nov 20

In a major development, By-polls in Assembly Constituencies in Kerala, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh have been rescheduled from November 13 to November 20 due to various festivities.

The Election Commission of India has announced bye-election to 48 Assemblies Constituencies and 2 Parliamentary Constituencies of 15 States wherein the date of poll for all by-elections except in 16-Nanded PC of Maharashtra and 07-Kedarnath AC of Uttarakhand was fixed on 13.11.2024(Wednesday).

In view of the festivities around the polling date, EC has received letters from various parties for a change in the poll date. Taking action on it, Election Commission have rescheduled by-polls slated for November 13 to November 20. EC said that considering large-scale social, cultural and religious engagements on that day which may cause inconvenience to a large number of people, give rise to various logistic issues, and may lead to reduced voter participation during the poll.
