Kullu: An earthquake struck Kullu in Himachal Pradesh early this morning. According to the Meteorological Center Shimla, mild tremors were felt at 6:50 am. Its intensity was measured 3.4 on the Richter scale. Its depth inside the ground was 5 kilometers.
So far there is no report of any loss of life or property. It is being said that these tremors were felt thrice.
People who felt the tremors came out of their houses. However, due to the low intensity of the tremors, most people could not feel them.
Most of the areas of Kullu district fall in Zone 4 which is very sensitive from the earthquake point of view. Therefore, earthquake tremors are felt here frequently.
Now know why earthquakes occur?
The surface of the earth is mainly made up of 7 large and many small tectonic plates. These plates keep floating continuously and sometimes collide with each other. Due to collision, sometimes the corners of the plates get bent and when too much pressure is applied, these plates start breaking.
In such a situation, the energy coming from below finds a way to come out and after this disturbance an earthquake occurs.
