Shimla: Western Disturbance (WD) will be active in Himachal Pradesh from tomorrow night. Its effect will be visible on the mountains for the next four days. Due to WD being active, rain and snowfall is forecast in most parts of the state, especially on 20 February.
According to the Meteorological Department, there may be rain and snowfall in many areas on February 19 as well. However, the long dry spell is expected to break across the state on February 20. Western disturbance will weaken on February 21, due to which the weather will remain bad only in the higher altitude areas. There may be rain and snowfall in medium altitude and high altitude areas on February 22.
Thunderstorm alert
In view of WD, the Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms in all the 10 districts except Kinnaur and Lahaul Spiti for February 20. Yellow alert has also been issued for Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Chamba and Kangra districts on February 19.
Bus movement to Atal Tunnel Rohtang closed
Due to snowfall, the movement of buses to Atal Tunnel Rohtang is closed. Jalori Pass is also closed.
Farmers, gardeners and tourism businessmen are worried
The farmers, gardeners and tourism businessmen of the state are worried due to lack of rain and snowfall. This has also had a bad effect on the tourism business. Due to lack of rain, apple orchards have started drying up. Crops are also getting adversely affected. Now even tourists are not coming to Himachal.
79 percent less rain than normal
According to the Meteorological Department, the current winter season, i.e. from January 1 to February 17, has seen 79 percent less rainfall than normal. The normal rainfall during this period is 139.2 mm. But this time, only 29.6 mm of rain has fallen.
