Congress MP Rakesh Rathore was released on bail from Sitapur Jail on March 19 in connection with a rape case. After his release, Rathore maintained his innocence, stating that if he had committed any wrongdoing, he would seek the strictest punishment for himself. He expressed confidence that the truth would soon come to light and emphasized that he did not want the issue to become political. Rathore also thanked his party for their support during this time.
On January 30, Rathore had surrendered to the police after being accused of raping a woman over a period of four years under the pretense of marriage and offering assistance in politics. Before surrendering, he told media that he was confident of receiving justice in court, as the High Court had granted him two weeks to appear before the lower court and follow the legal process.
The police reported that the woman had provided electronic evidence, including call recordings, to support her claims. According to Sitapur Superintendent of Police Chakresh Mishra, the woman filed a complaint on January 15, alleging that Rathore had raped her for four years under the false promise of marriage and political help. She also stated that she had been continuously threatened by Rathore. A case was registered, and the police are taking action based on the evidence provided. The victim’s medical examination and statement have been recorded in court.
