AAP Targets Amit Shah Over ‘Grand Promises’ Ahead of Chandigarh Municipal Corporation Polls

Chandigarh: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday attacked Union Home Minister Amit Shah for visiting Chandigarh recently and making “broad promises” without solving long-standing issues in the city.

Residents were expecting actual resolutions on Chandigarh Housing Board flats, ownership rights, Lal Dora property, leasehold property and rehabilitation colonies, but no clear resolutions were announced, AAP Chandigarh President Vijaypal Singh, councillor Anju Katyal and Deepa Dubey said.

“The people of Chandigarh have been waiting for years on this issue. But no concrete plan or timeline has been given,” Vijaypal Singh said.

“Why did Amit Shah even come to the city? It makes no sense to promise them anything because it will be given through the Governor and UT administration. They (BJP) just make promises on their part and don’t put in any real effort towards fulfilling their previous promises.”

“There is so much fanfare around this visit but the people have been disappointed as they haven’t been given any real relief.”

AAP Questions ₹1,400 Crore Manimajra Water Supply Project

Singh also questioned the implementation of the 24-hour water supply in Manimajra.

“We spent around ₹1,400 crore on this but the results are not good. People continue to struggle with water issues.”

“This can be seen as an example of how the BJP works. They make large announcements but people aren’t getting the benefits.”

Ownership Rights For Housing Board Flats Still Not Granted

The AAP leaders also took a dig at the BJP for delaying the granting of ownership rights for Chandigarh Housing Board flats.

In 2019, former Chandigarh MP Kirron Kher said at the UT Guest House that the proposal to give ownership rights to residents had been approved by the Centre and Union Home Ministry.

“Why are eligible residents still waiting for this in 2026? The BJP have come back to this issue due to upcoming civic body elections. Families have been waiting for years.”

AAP Concerned About Possible Demolition Of Colony Near Dhanas

The AAP leaders are concerned about the possible demolition of a colony near Dhanas.

“Why are the residents struggling with the threat of demolition when there are thousands of empty houses? Why wasn’t there any planning for their rehabilitation and housing?”

“It is a major concern that families could become homeless during the festive period and start of Winter.”
