AAP Launches Punjab 2027 Poll Campaign From Ludhiana, Mann Targets BJP-Akali Governments Over Drugs

Ludhiana: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Saturday formally launched its campaign for the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections from Ludhiana, with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann releasing the party’s election pamphlet at the Indoor Stadium on Pakhowal Road.

The campaign launch comes ahead of a statewide door-to-door outreach drive beginning on September 20, with AAP planning to deploy more than 2.68 lakh booth committee members across 25,332 polling booths in Punjab. The month-long campaign will focus on taking the Mann government’s work, schemes and election guarantees to households, while also gathering people’s concerns.

Mann Targets BJP-Akali Governments Over Drug Issue

Addressing the gathering, Mann said his government had delivered more than the guarantees made to people ahead of the 2022 elections.

He highlighted the Road Safety Force (SSF) and claimed that the initiative had helped save around 2,700 lives annually. He also said the initiative had received praise from Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari.

Mann also targeted the previous BJP-Akali governments over the drug problem in Punjab, saying the issue had worsened during their tenure while the same political forces were now organising anti-drug yatras.

The BJP has separately launched its Nasha Mukt Yatra, an anti-drug campaign covering all 117 Assembly constituencies ahead of the 2027 elections.

Mann also referred to former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh’s earlier promise to tackle the drug menace, arguing that the problem continued despite such assurances.

2.68 Lakh Booth Members To Reach Households

AAP Punjab in-charge Manish Sisodia said the party would begin its statewide door-to-door campaign from September 20, with Mann personally joining the outreach in his Assembly constituency, Dhuri. A membership drive will also run alongside the campaign.

AAP said 2,68,553 booth committee members will participate in the campaign covering Punjab’s 25,332 polling booths. Party workers will visit households to explain the government’s work over the past four-and-a-half years, discuss schemes and guarantees, and collect public feedback.

Mann is scheduled to begin the door-to-door campaign from Dhuri on September 20, after which the outreach will expand across Punjab through booth-level committees.

Sisodia, Aman Arora Highlight AAP Organisation

Sisodia accused the Centre of attempting to obstruct the Punjab government’s work through agencies such as the ED and CBI, while praising Mann’s leadership. These were political allegations made by Sisodia and were not independently established in the reports.

Punjab Cabinet Minister Aman Arora said the booth-level organisation would take the government’s achievements to every household while also bringing people’s issues back to the government.

The campaign is expected to continue for around a month and will also include a membership drive.
