Actor Imran Khan granted relief until Monday; hearing to resume on November 2nd at 3 p.m

Mumbai: Bollywood actor Imran Khan has received relief in the case related to his leave-India notice. After Tuesday’s hearing in the Bombay High Court, the case has been adjourned until November 2nd. The matter will now be heard again on Monday at 3 pm.

The case relates to a ‘Leave India Notice’ issued by the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), directing the actor to leave India by October 28, 2026.

    What is the whole matter?

Imran Khan is a US citizen and holds an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card. According to his lawyers, he has been living in India since the age of about two and has been an OCI cardholder since 2006.

On October 10, 2026, Imran Khan was detained by the police during a protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar regarding the SIR process around August Kranti Maidan and Nana Chowk in Mumbai. This protest was organized in support of the protests in Delhi.

According to Imran’s team, the actor was neither an organizer nor a participant in the protest. They say he only went to observe what was happening. According to the team, while he was returning to his car, media personnel surrounded him and the police detained him. He was later released.

Why did the FRRO issue a notice to leave India?

Following this incident, the FRRO issued a notice to Imran Khan on October 14, directing him to leave India by October 28. The actor subsequently filed a petition in the Bombay High Court challenging this order.

In his petition, Imran Khan argued that he was not given a fair opportunity to present his side before the notice was issued. He also stated that the notice did not clearly mention the specific legal provisions that were allegedly violated.

The actor has requested the court to quash the notice and grant him protection from deportation, blacklisting, or action on his OCI status until the hearing of the case is completed.

Notice regarding cancellation of OCI status

According to Imran Khan’s team, the FRRO has also issued a show-cause notice regarding the possibility of cancellation of his OCI registration. This notice asks him to explain why his OCI status should not be revoked.

The actor has challenged these actions and sought relief from the court. The matter will now be heard at the next hearing on November 2.
