Army Chief Urges Advanced Tech in Anti‑Terror Operations

Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi on Sunday conducted an extensive review of ongoing counter‑terrorism operations and the prevailing security situation in forward areas of Jammu and Kashmir during a visit to operational postings. The visit included multiple forward locations, where he assessed troops’ preparedness and operations against terror threats.

The Army said the review covered strategic and tactical fronts, with a particular focus on enhancing operational readiness to meet evolving threats along the sensitive Rajouri and Poonch sectors.

Emphasis on Infusion of Advanced Technology

A key outcome of the engagements was General Dwivedi’s emphasis on the use of advanced technologies to enhance the Army’s anti‑terror capabilities. Discussions with commanders and security formation leaders focused on strengthening surveillance, intelligence and operational tools through modern tech integration.

Officials said the Army Chief underlined the importance of inter‑agency synergy and leveraging innovations such as enhanced sensors, communication systems and tech‑driven tactical tools to improve detection, tracking and response to hostile elements in difficult terrain.

While not detailing specific systems, the call for advanced technology aligns with broader defence modernization trends prioritizing digitization, AI, robotics and real‑time data fusion key elements thought necessary to outpace adaptive threats in contemporary counter‑terror operations.

Visits to Strategic Formations and High‑Level Meetings

General Dwivedi’s review trip began with a visit to the White Knight Corps headquarters in Jammu, followed by tours of units engaged in frontline operations against terror networks. He also chaired interactions with commanders of the Counter Insurgency Force (Romeo), a specialized Army formation tasked with neutralizing terrorist elements in rugged and forested landscapes.

The Army Chief participated in a high‑level security review meeting chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, reflecting close coordination between the Army and the Home Ministry on national security and counter‑terror strategies.

    Troop Readiness and Commendations

During his engagements with soldiers and officers, General Dwivedi lauded the “unwavering dedication, professionalism and steadfast commitment” of all ranks. He praised field formations for maintaining a “high state of readiness” under challenging operational conditions, underscoring the Indian Army’s sustained focus on vigilance and preparedness.

Officials added that the interactions reaffirmed the Army’s resolve to remain proactive and agile in its counter‑terror efforts, even as adversaries adapt their tactics.

Security Context and Evolving Operational Needs

The emphasis on technology comes amid a broader push within defence circles to integrate modern tools into operations from surveillance drones and real‑time sensors to cyber‑enabled command systems to stay ahead of asymmetric threats. The Army’s focus on technology mirrors similar calls by other security leaders to adopt tech‑driven solutions across the border security and internal security apparatus.

Security analysts say that the rugged terrain of the Jammu and Kashmir frontiers poses unique challenges, where mobility, surveillance and quick situational awareness can be decisive. Advanced technology can enhance capabilities ranging from night vision and thermal imaging to sensor networks and secure battlefield communications.
