Kabul: Afghan counter-narcotics police have seized 42 kg of methamphetamine during an intelligence-led operation in northern Faryab province, the Ministry of Interior Affairs said.

According to the ministry, the drugs had been loaded in Herat province, concealed inside a vehicle and were being trafficked through Faryab towards Balkh province when they were intercepted by authorities.

A suspect was arrested in connection with the seizure and is currently under investigation. Officials said the case will be referred to judicial authorities after completion of the investigation.

Drug trafficking crackdown continues

The latest seizure is part of ongoing efforts by Afghan security forces to disrupt major drug trafficking networks operating across the country.

Authorities have intensified operations against illegal drug production and smuggling routes, particularly in areas used for transportation of narcotics.

The seizure comes days after Afghan police reported confiscating 403 kg of opium in northern Takhar province, where two people were also arrested.

Afghanistan continues anti-drug operations 

The Ministry of Interior Affairs has also reported action against drug addiction and rehabilitation efforts across Afghanistan.

In central Daykundi province, police recently detained more than 100 drug-addicted people and transferred them to rehabilitation centres. Officials said 78 people have recovered and reunited with their families after receiving treatment.

Authorities said efforts would continue to provide medical support to drug users while taking action against illegal drug production and trafficking.

Earlier, counter-narcotics officials in Nimroz province reported the seizure of several illegal substances, including 84 kg of opium and 130 kg of methamphetamine, along with other materials allegedly used in drug manufacturing.

Officials said anti-drug operations will continue as part of efforts to control narcotics trafficking and production in the country.
