Afghanistan: Explosion at Court Building in Faryab Raises Security Concerns

Kabul: An explosion at the Court of Appeals building in Faryab on Thursday spread panic in the area and renewed security concerns in northern Afghanistan. According to local media, emergency teams responded to the scene immediately after the blast.

Taliban Officials Could Have Been Targeted

Taliban officials were holding a security meeting in the court building at the time of the blast, suggesting that the meeting itself could have been the likely target. Some reports suggest the blast was caused by a rocket attack, while other sources say it was caused by planted mines, according to the Afghan news agency Khaama Press.

Casualties and Response

Health officials reported that several people were taken to hospital with injuries, but the exact number of casualties is not yet known. No organization has claimed responsibility for the attack, and Taliban officials have yet to officially comment on the incident or its consequences.

Pattern of Recent Attacks

Afghanistan has witnessed several violent incidents prior to the Faryab blast. In October, a hand grenade accidentally exploded during evening prayers at a mosque in the Shinwari district of Parwan province, injuring nine people. Witnesses reported that the Taliban member who threw the grenade was also injured. Also this month, armed men opened fire on people during prayers in Bamiyan province.

These incidents highlight the severity of security challenges in northern and central Afghanistan.
