Almora: Three youths returning from attending a ‘Jagar’ ceremony in Almora, Uttarakhand, lost their lives in a tragic accident. The group was driving home in a car when, while navigating a sharp bend, the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to plunge 150 meters into a deep gorge. All occupants of the vehicle perished at the scene of the accident.

The accident occurred around midnight; however, due to the remote nature of the area, it went unnoticed for 4–5 hours until approximately 5:00 AM, when locals heading to the dairy to deliver milk spotted signs of the crash. Upon noticing bloodstains and tire marks on the road, villagers peered down into the ravine and spotted the wrecked car.
Upon receiving the information, teams from the police and the SDRF (State Disaster Response Force) rushed to the accident site and immediately launched a rescue operation.
The Maruti 800 overturned upon falling into the gorge and was crushed almost flat, resembling a crumpled matchbox. Large boulders were found resting atop the wreckage. The rescue team successfully retrieved the bodies of all three victims from the deep ravine and brought them up to the road level.
It was reported that two of the victims had fallen deeper into the gorge and were the first to be recovered by the rescue team. Meanwhile, the body of the third victim was trapped on the rocky slope, and the team had to struggle considerably to retrieve it.
