New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Amanatullah Khan on Monday alleged that 1 lakh to 1.5 lakh voter names could be removed from the electoral rolls in Delhi’s Okhla Assembly constituency during the Election Commission of India’s ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise.

Khan claimed that the names likely to be deleted belonged primarily to voters who do not support the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He also alleged that several Booth Level Officers (BLOs) were not carrying out door-to-door verification properly.

“They are going to delete 1 to 1.5 lakh votes from Okhla, primarily those who are not their (BJP) voters. I will provide all the details, such as those BLOs who are not visiting home to home and which BLOs do not answer their phones,” Khan told ANI.

What Is the Special Intensive Revision (SIR)?

The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) is a nationwide exercise undertaken by the Election Commission of India (ECI) to update and verify electoral rolls. The objective is to remove duplicate, shifted, deceased and ineligible voters while ensuring that all eligible citizens are included in the voter list.

In Delhi, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) have started distributing and collecting Enumeration Forms through door-to-door visits across all 13 districts. The exercise aims to prepare an accurate and error-free electoral roll ahead of future elections.

Election Commission’s Schedule for Electoral Roll Revision

According to the Election Commission, the draft electoral roll for Delhi will be published on August 5.

Voters who find their names missing or identify any errors in the draft list can submit claims and objections between August 5 and September 4. After reviewing all applications, the Commission will publish the final electoral roll on October 7.

The ECI has repeatedly stated that the revision process is intended to make the electoral database more accurate and inclusive and that eligible voters will have sufficient opportunity to get their names added or corrected before the final list is released.

AAP Raises Questions Over Verification Process

Amanatullah Khan alleged that the verification process was not being carried out properly in parts of the Okhla constituency. He claimed that several Booth Level Officers had neither visited households nor responded to phone calls from residents.

The AAP MLA said he would present evidence regarding the alleged lapses in the verification process and accused the BJP of attempting to influence the voter list through the revision exercise.

The Election Commission has not responded to Khan’s allegations. The Special Intensive Revision is continuing as per the announced schedule, and the Commission has urged residents to cooperate with Booth Level Officers and verify their details to avoid any discrepancies in the electoral roll.

Note: Amanatullah Khan’s claim that 1 to 1.5 lakh voter names may be deleted from Okhla is an allegation. The Election Commission has not confirmed any such figure or accepted the allegations made by the AAP MLA.
