This year’s Amarnath Yatra, which began on July 3, 2025, was abruptly suspended—with barely a week left before its expected conclusion on August 9 (Raksha Bandhan). The Yatra has been suspended further for the maintenance of the tracks, which were seriously damaged after heavy rainfall. As per the administration, both routes, including Pahalgam and Baltal routes, sustained extensive damage from the recent torrential rains.
In a statement issued from Srinagar, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bhiduri, explained that unrelenting rains had left the pilgrimage paths unsafe and called for “maintenance works of urgent nature.”
With men and machinery now mobilised to clear and reinforce the damaged stretches from August 3 onwards, authorities ruled that no further pilgrim convoys would be permitted beyond the Baltal and Pahalgam base camps.
Over 4 lakh Pilgrims perform Drashan
By the time of the suspension, approximately 4.05 lakh devotees had visited the cave‑shrine this season. In comparison with the past year, the number fell short as over 5.10 lakh devotees completed the Yatra in 2024.
