Amit Shah Inaugurates North East’s Largest Auditorium in Guwahati

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday formally inaugurated the North East’s largest auditorium, the Jyoti-Bishnu Antarjatik Kala Mandir, in Guwahati, Assam. The state-of-the-art facility is expected to become a major cultural and public events hub for the entire region.

 A Landmark Cultural Complex

Built at a cost of approximately ₹291 crore, the new auditorium boasts seating for 5,000 spectators and spans around 45 bighas (about 15 acres) in the Khanapara area of Guwahati. The expansive complex features a modern convention centre, five VIP suites and ample multi-level parking for around 450 vehicles.

 World-Class Facilities and Green Focus

Officials say the complex has been equipped with advanced audio-visual systems, digital infrastructure, and modern stage facilities, designed to meet international standards. The auditorium will also operate on green energy, with solar panels installed on the rooftop to reduce its carbon footprint.

 Honouring Assam’s Cultural Icons

The venue is named in honour of two towering figures from Assamese culture — Jyotiprasad Agarwala and Bishnu Prasad Rabha — reflecting Assam’s deep respect for its artistic heritage. Local leaders hope the auditorium will offer a world-class platform for cultural performances, festivals, conferences and national-level events.

A Boost for Regional Culture and Social Initiatives

During the inauguration, officials said the venue will also host social welfare programmes. Amit Shah is expected to felicitate around 1,000 beneficiaries of the congenital heart disease programme at the venue, highlighting the government’s focus on combining cultural development with public welfare.

 A New Chapter for Assam’s Cultural Infrastructure

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised the project as a major addition to the state’s cultural landscape, noting that the facility will solidify Guwahati’s status as a key cultural hub in the Northeast. The inauguration is part of a broader push to enhance public infrastructure and promote the region’s rich cultural identity
