Police Encounter in Amritsar: One accused shot dead, Multiple arrests made

Amritsar: An encounter took place between police and criminals in Amritsar today, Friday. Police have achieved a major breakthrough in the late-night gang war on Golden Avenue Main Road. Within 24 hours of the incident, police arrested three suspects. Meanwhile, the main accused, Sudhanshu Sharma alias Brahmin, was shot during an encounter while trying to apprehend him.

The injured accused has been hospitalised by the police. Earlier, around 1 a.m. on Wednesday night, five to six bike-borne assailants opened fire on young men in a film-esque manner. The driver, Nimish, a resident of Sultanwind Road, was hit by 14 bullets and died on the spot. Harpreet Singh, alias Ganja, who was sitting with him, was hit by three bullets and was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

The attackers were riding three motorcycles. They first fired in the air and then shot at the car’s tire. The tire burst, causing the car to hit a pole. The attackers then surrounded the car and opened fire indiscriminately. Even the car’s windows were riddled with bullets. Police recovered several bullet casings from the scene.

Sudhanshu Sharma snatched the police’s service revolver and opened fire.

The police acted swiftly after the incident and arrested three accused: Rajat alias Babbar, a resident of New Nehru Colony, Majitha Road, age 19; Aditya Kumar, a resident of DS Estate, Police Station Kambo, Amritsar Rural, age 19; and Sudhanshu Sharma alias Brahmin, a resident of Majitha Road (injured), age 23.

Police recovered a large quantity of weapons from Sudhanshu Sharma’s possession, including a .30 bore pistol with 3 live cartridges, a .32 bore pistol, and a .45 bore pistol with 7 live cartridges. According to police, when Sudhanshu Sharma was taken for recovery, he suddenly snatched the service revolver of police officer Gurikbal Singh and started firing. In retaliation, SHO Harparkash Singh fired a shot from his service pistol, which hit Sudhanshu Sharma’s right leg.
