Amritsar government hospital suicide case; MP Gurjeet Aujla demands high-level inquiry

Serious questions have been raised against the administration and the health department following the suicide of a young man at the government hospital in Lopoke, Amritsar. Amritsar MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla has taken a strong stance on the incident and demanded a high-level inquiry.

MP Aujla writes a letter

MP Gurjeet Aujla wrote a letter to Amritsar Deputy Commissioner Dalwinderjit Singh, stating that on January 13, a young man named Vinod Kumar, a resident of Chaugawan village, committed suicide on the premises of the Lopoke government hospital. The MP said that this incident is not just the death of one person, but a serious example of the deplorable condition and negligence in government health services in rural areas.

According to MP Aujla, the deceased, Vinod Kumar, was suffering from severe pain and difficulty breathing, and had gone to the hospital hoping for treatment. However, it is alleged that the hospital staff left him suffering without any treatment for about two hours. His family members say that Vinod repeatedly pleaded with the doctors to start treatment or refer him to Amritsar, but his pleas were ignored.

Citing the statement of the deceased’s brother, Sanjeev Kumar, the MP said that when Vinod repeatedly demanded treatment, some hospital staff members misbehaved with him and allegedly threatened him. Broken by mental and physical pain, Vinod finally committed suicide by hanging himself from the grill of a water tank on the hospital premises.

MP Aujla questions accountability

MP Aujla questioned why no concrete action has been taken by the police, even a week after the incident, and why the hospital’s CCTV footage has not been made public. He clearly stated that if timely first aid had been provided, Vinod Kumar’s life could have been saved.

MP Gurjeet Aujla warned that strict action will be taken against the responsible staff and officials in this case, and justice will be delivered to the victim’s family at all costs.
