Amritsar: Gunfire erupted between two parties over sarpanch dispute in Bhakna Kalan, one dead; 9 arrested

The dispute over the post of Sarpanch in Bhakna Kalan village, which falls under the jurisdiction of Gharinda police station in Amritsar, turned into a bloody clash. One person died and another was injured in the firing between the two sides. The police have taken action and arrested nine accused so far. Continuous raids are being conducted to arrest the remaining named accused.

DSP Attari Yadvinder Singh said that the police had received information that the factions of Sarpanch Gurdeep Singh and Panchayat member Pargat Singh alias Ballu were fighting among themselves in Bhakna Kalan village. There had been a dispute between the two parties over the post of Sarpanch for a long time. Due to this dispute, both the parties reached the Dana Mandi, where several shots were fired by both the parties after the dispute.

According to the police, Gursharan Singh alias Chini, a resident of Kotli Sakka village (Rajasansi police station) was shot dead from Pargat Singh’s side, while Sukhman was injured. The injured have been admitted to the hospital.

The DSP said that the deceased, Gursharan Singh alias Chini, was a gangster with several serious criminal cases registered against him, including murder, attempt to murder and the Arms Act. The police are also checking his criminal record. TV & Video

In this case, the police arrested eight accused from the spot and the surrounding area. Sukhman, who is undergoing treatment in the hospital, was also arrested. This takes the total number of accused arrested to nine.

The police say that they are continuously conducting raids to search for the absconding accused. All the accused will be arrested soon and further legal action will be taken.
