Amritsar Police Bust Cross-Border Arms Smuggling Module, Arrest Seven With 15 Pistols

Amritsar: The Commissionerate Police in Amritsar, Punjab, has busted a cross-border arms smuggling module. Police have arrested seven members of the gang.

The suspects arrested in this operation were Shamsher Singh alias Seema, Amandeep Singh alias Bobby, Balwinder Singh alias Kaka, Gurdev Singh, Karanpreet Singh, Harman Singh, and a minor, all residents of Amritsar. Police recovered 15 modern pistols from their possession, including nine Glock 9mm pistols and six pistols (.30 bore).

The accused were in contact with a Pakistani handler through social media.

Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said preliminary investigations revealed that the arrested accused were in contact with a Pakistan-based handler, with whom they were connected through social media. The gang was actively involved in the procurement and supply of illegal weapons across Punjab.

A case has been registered at the Amritsar Cantt police station and a thorough investigation into the network is underway.

An FIR has been registered against the arrested accused at the Cantonment Police Station, Amritsar. Police said the investigation is underway to uncover the entire network, its backbone and forward links. The DGP said he remains committed to dismantling the cross-border arms smuggling network and curbing the spread of illegal weapons and organized crime in the state.
