Two Cross-Border Smuggling Networks Busted in Amritsar, Five Arrested

Amritsar: Amritsar Commissionerate Police has busted two alleged cross-border networks involved in the smuggling of narcotics and illegal weapons, arresting five people and recovering seven illegal pistols and 2.30 kg of heroin.

Police said the arrested accused were allegedly involved in separate networks dealing in weapons and narcotics. Preliminary investigation into the weapons case has revealed suspected links with smugglers operating from abroad.

Seven Pistols, 2.30 Kg Heroin Recovered

During the operation, police recovered seven illegal pistols along with 2 kg 30 grams of heroin from the accused.

According to preliminary findings, the accused linked to the illegal weapons network were allegedly in contact with foreign-based smugglers. Police suspect that the weapons were procured from overseas and were being prepared for supply in Amritsar and Tarn Taran areas.

Investigators are now probing how the weapons were sourced and transported into Punjab and identifying the alleged foreign handlers behind the network.

Two FIRs Registered in Amritsar

Two separate FIRs have been registered in connection with the cases at Islamabad and Sultanwind police stations in Amritsar.

Police are questioning the arrested accused to identify other people allegedly associated with the networks and establish the channels through which the consignments of weapons and narcotics reached Punjab.

Police Probe Foreign Links and Supply Chain

Investigators are examining both the forward and backward links of the networks. Efforts are underway to identify alleged handlers based abroad as well as their local contacts in Punjab.

Police said further investigation could lead to the identification of additional members involved in the networks and reveal more details about the supply chain used for illegal weapons and narcotics.
