Appointments to 97 posts in the Punjab Industries Department soon; Harpal Singh Cheema grants approval

The Punjab government has taken significant steps to strengthen health services and enhance the effectiveness of industrial administration. Finance Minister Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema has approved proposals to recruit 619 Multipurpose Health Workers (Female) in the Department of Health and Family Welfare and to revitalize the administrative and field cadres of the Industries Department. This decision will not only improve the quality of government services but also create new employment opportunities.

Approval for recruitment to 619 posts in the Health Department

The Punjab government has decided to fill 619 vacant Group-C posts of Multipurpose Health Worker (Female) under the Department of Health and Family Welfare. Both direct recruitment and promotion mechanisms have been incorporated for these posts to ensure the availability of qualified and trained personnel within the department.

Balanced provisions for direct recruitment and promotion

Among the approved posts, 220 vacancies have been vacant for less than a year. Additionally, 346 posts have been earmarked for promotion, enabling eligible employees from the ‘Trained Dai’ cadre to be promoted to the post of Multipurpose Health Worker (Female). Meanwhile, 53 posts that had previously been abolished due to remaining vacant for a long period will be restored following necessary approvals.

Recruitment to be conducted through Baba Farid University

To ensure a swift and transparent recruitment process, the Punjab government has decided to keep these posts outside the purview of the Punjab Subordinate Services Selection Board. The entire recruitment process will now be conducted through Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot.

Selected candidates will be appointed under the ‘Punjab Health and Family Welfare Technical (Group-C) Service (First Amendment) Rules, 2025’ in the Level-3 pay scale of ₹21,700 to ₹69,100. Increased Annual Financial Burden on Punjab Government

Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema stated that filling these posts would impose an additional annual financial burden of approximately ₹16.12 crore on the state government during the probation period. However, the government considers this investment essential for improved healthcare services.

Recruitment for 97 Posts to be Announced Soon

The Finance Minister explained that the Industries Department had surrendered a large number of posts during the 2020 restructuring, which impacted the department’s operational efficiency. In view of the current situation, the government has granted permission to issue advertisements for the recruitment of up to 97 posts during the ongoing financial year.
