Army Soldier Dies by Suicide After Facebook Live Allegations Against Wife

Gurdaspur: Accusing his wife of mental torture, an Indian Army soldier committed suicide by consuming poison. Earlier, the soldier went live on Facebook and revealed that his wife had eloped with her lover just two months after their marriage.

The deceased was identified as Kanwaljit Singh (30), a resident of Chhit village in Batala, Gurdaspur. He joined the Army about three years ago and was currently posted to the 17 Sikh Regiment in Jaipur. He was recently transferred to Jabalpur on a temporary assignment.

Soldier Went Live on Facebook Before Consuming Poison

The soldier had married about three months ago. On Friday (May 22), while traveling in Jabalpur, he went live on Facebook, made serious allegations against his wife, and then consumed poison. The soldier’s last rites were performed on Saturday.

In the video the soldier made before his death, he said, “I have to teach Sarab (his wife Sarabjit Kaur) a lesson. This path is leading to my death, watch out. Teach this Sarab a lesson. Just teach him a lesson once and for all about who to spare and who not. I don’t want anything else, just that she rots in jail.”

“The Father Eloped With His Own Daughter”

The soldier continued, “Tell him once that he died because of you. Sarab and Gurbhej (the wife’s boyfriend), who are in a love relationship, just teach them both a lesson. Sarab’s father (father-in-law) used to say, ‘My child, my child,’ but he always took his son’s side. He eloped with his daughter. Sarab has been staying with him.”

The deceased’s mother, Surjit Kaur, tearfully explained that her only son, Kanwaljit Singh, was married to a woman named Sarabjit Kaur in February 2026. Just two months after the wedding, Sarabjit Kaur ran away from home with her lover at around 3 a.m. Kanwaljit filed a complaint with the Sadar police station, but the police took no concrete action.

Family Demands Justice

Surjit Kaur said that on Friday morning, she received a call from Kanwaljit’s unit informing her that Kanwaljit had committed suicide. He went live on Facebook and blamed his wife and several others for his death. The mother has now appealed to the police administration for justice and demanded strict action against the accused wife.

Sister Also Made Serious Allegations

The deceased’s sister, Sandeep Kaur, has also leveled serious allegations against her sister-in-law and in-laws. According to Sandeep, her brother was deeply troubled by his wife and father-in-law’s behavior. Kanwaljit had called her father-in-law several times to inform him that Sarabjit was having an affair with another man, but the girl’s father ignored these allegations.

Police Say Further Action Will Be Taken in Jabalpur

Regarding this entire matter, ASI Ramesh Kumar of the Shekhupur outpost of Sadar Police Station stated that the police had already registered a case against unknown individuals based on Kanwaljit’s complaint. However, since this suicide occurred within the borders of Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh), further legal and police action will be taken by the Jabalpur Police.
