Arvind Kejriwal Targets Akali Dal-BJP Alliance, Says Both Will Contest Polls on Drug Issue

Aam Aadmi Party’s National Convener Arvind Kejriwal has indicated the possibility of an alliance between the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Shiromani Akali Dal. Kejriwal posted a very sharp and satirical tweet on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

Arvind Kejriwal tweeted:

“I just said yesterday. The ED party is eager to form an alliance with the Beadbi Party/Chitta Party, but the Beadbi Party/Chitta Party is not willing to give in. The most astonishing thing is that the ED party will contest elections with the Chitta Party on the issue of Chitta.”

Arvind Kejriwal and the Aam Aadmi Party have been referring to the BJP as the ‘ED party’ for several days, as the opposition has continuously accused the central government of misusing the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

Meanwhile, on the other hand, Punjab’s main regional party, Shiromani Akali Dal, has been called the ‘disrespect party’ and the ‘chitta party’ (drugs). This jibe is related to the cases of desecration of the Guru Granth Sahib during Akali Dal’s previous tenure in Punjab and the controversial issues of ‘chitta’ spread across the state.

“Restlessness for alliance, but not feeding them”

Through his tweet, Kejriwal targeted the BJP, saying that the ‘ED party’ is extremely eager and restless to form an alliance with the ‘chitta party’ to once again establish a foothold in Punjab. But the interesting thing is that they are not getting any response from the other side, meaning they are ‘not being fed’.

In Punjab, for some time now, speculations have been rising about reviving the old alliance between the BJP and the Akali Dal, on which neither party has given any official approval yet.

Elections will be fought on the issue of ‘chitta’

In the second part of his tweet, Kejriwal took the biggest jibe and called it an incredible contradiction in politics. He wrote that the party which claims to be against corruption and drugs, itself the ‘ED party’, is now preparing to fight elections in Punjab on the issue of drugs (‘chitta’) by joining hands with the ‘Chitta party’.

The Aam Aadmi Party alleges that the parties which used to oppose each other’s policies are now trying to come together on one platform just out of greed for power.

Heated Atmosphere in Punjab Politics

After Arvind Kejriwal’s statement, the exchange of statements in Punjab politics has intensified. Local leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party say that this tweet is to alert the people of Punjab about how opposition parties are ready to compromise on principles only for political gain. It is noteworthy that cases of drugs (chitta) and sacrilege in Punjab have always been highly sensitive and major election issues.

The Aam Aadmi Party had also strongly raised these issues in the 2022 assembly elections and had achieved a massive majority. Now once again, Arvind Kejriwal has given a new boost to this old fight through social media, which may increase difficulties for the BJP and Akali Dal in the coming days.

BJP has completely rejected the alliance

Bharatiya Janata Party’s national president Nitin Nabib and Union Home Minister have already announced that they will contest the elections alone in Punjab. Not only that, but the Punjab state president has also made it clear that they will contest elections on all 117 assembly seats. Kejriwal’s tweet has once again heated up the political climate in Punjab.
