ASI Arrested for Accepting Bribe in Ludhiana; Demanded ₹20,000 in Exchange for Copy of FIR

In a major crackdown on corruption within the police department in Ludhiana, the Vigilance Bureau arrested ASI Hardeep Singh—posted at Police Station Division No. 8—red-handed while he was accepting a bribe of ₹14,000. The accused policeman is alleged to have demanded the bribe in exchange for providing a copy of the FIR and taking action on the case.

Daughter Went to Collect Results on May 18

According to the Vigilance Bureau, Ram Ishwar, a resident of Gopal Nagar, near the Gatta Factory, stated in his complaint that his 22-year-old daughter, Khushboo (who had completed a tailoring course at the Government ITI for Girls in Ghumar Mandi), went to the ITI on May 18, 2026, to collect her results but did not return home by evening.

After an extensive search yielded no trace of her, a missing person report was lodged at Police Station Division No. 8 on May 19.

Summoned to the Station on May 20 and Demanded Bribe

The complainant stated that ASI Hardeep Singh, who was investigating the case, summoned him to the police station on May 20 and demanded a bribe of ₹20,000 in exchange for taking action on the matter. It is alleged that the policeman accepted ₹6,000 right then and there.

Subsequently, acting on orders from senior officials, FIR No. 155 was registered at Police Station Division No. 8 on May 26, 2026, against Puneet Kumar (a resident of UP) on charges of wrongful confinement.

Despite this, ASI Hardeep Singh continued to demand the remaining ₹14,000 in exchange for providing a copy of the FIR and proceeding with further action. Following this, the victim contacted the Vigilance Bureau, Ludhiana Range.
