Baba Siddique Murder Case: Daughter Shahzeen Siddique Moves Court, Seeks Anmol Bishnoi’s Custody

Mumbai: In a significant development in the murder case of NCP leader and former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique, his daughter Shahzeen Ziauddin Siddique has approached a special court seeking immediate custody of alleged key accused Anmol Bishnoi. She has also raised concerns over the Mumbai Crime Branch’s investigation and urged the court to direct the agency to secure his presence for interrogation and trial.

Seeks Immediate Custody of Anmol Bishnoi

In her application, Shahzeen Siddique has requested the court to direct the Mumbai Crime Branch to produce Anmol Bishnoi before the court so that he can stand trial along with the other accused. She contended that despite being named as the prime accused in the chargesheet, no effective steps have been taken to secure his custody.

According to the plea, Anmol Bishnoi has been identified as a key member of the Bishnoi gang and the principal accused in the murder case. However, the petitioner alleged that the investigating agency has failed to make meaningful efforts to interrogate him or bring him before the court.

Questions Crime Branch Investigation

The petition states that Shahzeen’s family independently gathered information suggesting that Anmol Bishnoi had been in the custody of the US Department of Homeland Security in Iowa. According to the application, this information was shared with investigators, but the Mumbai Crime Branch allegedly did not take urgent legal steps to obtain his custody or initiate the process to bring him to India.

The plea further alleges that although 27 accused have been arrested in the case, including the three alleged shooters, the investigation has not uncovered the motive behind the murder or the larger conspiracy. These are allegations made by the petitioner before the court, and no judicial findings have been recorded on these claims.

Questions Over Witness Statements

The application also states that Shahzeen’s brother, Zeeshan Siddique, who is a witness in the case, had named certain individuals in his statement. However, according to the petition, those individuals were neither questioned nor examined further by investigators.

The family has also claimed that information sought under the Right to Information (RTI) Act regarding Anmol Bishnoi was denied on grounds of confidentiality. An appeal before the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) also did not result in the disclosure of the requested information.

Claims Opportunity Was Missed

According to the petition, Anmol Bishnoi was later brought to India and remained in the custody of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with another case before being sent to judicial custody.

Shahzeen has argued that this provided the Mumbai Crime Branch with an opportunity to seek his custody for questioning in the Baba Siddique murder case, but no such action was taken.

Trial Ready to Begin

The petition informs the court that charges have already been framed against 27 accused and the trial is set to commence.

It also notes that during an earlier hearing, the special court had sought clarification from the Special Public Prosecutor regarding efforts made to secure Anmol Bishnoi’s presence. According to the application, no satisfactory explanation was provided.

Court Asked to Direct Mumbai Crime Branch

Through her petition, Shahzeen Siddique has requested the special court to seek a detailed status report from the Mumbai Crime Branch regarding the steps taken to secure Anmol Bishnoi’s custody. She has further urged the court to direct the agency to immediately take him into custody and produce him before the court so that the trial can proceed without unnecessary delay.

The allegations contained in the petition are currently before the court, and no judicial determination has yet been made on the claims.
