Batala Protest Ends: Father-Son Descend After 55 Hours

Father and son, residents of the village Sairowal in Gurdaspur district, had climbed a 200-feet-high tower with high-voltage wires in Ghuman over their demands. Both had climbed the tower on Wednesday at 9 a.m. and came down after 55 hours. After assurance from the DSP, the father and son were brought down. It is worth mentioning that prior to this, the local police had also asked them several times to come down. However, both father and son remained on the tower for 55 hours.

During this time, people also asked the father and son to come down, but both stuck to their insistence. The two have been identified as Harman Singh and his father Hardev Singh, residents of the village Shailowal.

If the demand is not met, we will stage a sit-in protest. DSP TP Singh assured that the matter would be investigated and resolved within 15 days. Both of them came down after receiving the assurance from the police. Comrades Gurmeet Singh Bakhtpura and Harvinder Singh Malli said that if the case registered is not dismissed within 15 days, they will take 32 organizations along and stage a large-scale sit-in protest.

 Compulsion to climb the tower
Hardev Singh said that in the year 2021, some people of the village killed his son with a sharp weapon when he came to give a paper in Senior Secondary School Ghuman. The accused in the murder have come out on bail a few days ago and are harassing them.
They have also filed a false case against him, due to which the police raided, and his younger son was detained. For this reason, he and his son were forced to climb the tower and remained the tower until the demands were met.
