Beant Singh Murder Convict Hawara Declines Custody Parole, Wants Regular Parole

New Delhi: Jagtar Singh Hawara, convicted of the murder of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh, has rejected a two-day custody parole offered by the Delhi Prisons Department. Hawara has requested regular parole to visit his ailing elderly mother.

Parole Refused with Police Protection

Hawara is currently lodged in Mandoli Central Jail. According to officials, he was offered two days of custody parole following court orders and a security review. However, Hawara refused to leave without police protection.

Bhagwant Mann Requested 10-Day Parole

Earlier, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann met with Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria and requested 10-day parole for Hawara. Mann stated that the Punjab government was willing to take full responsibility for maintaining law and order during his parole.

Final decision on parole pending

According to Delhi Prison Department officials, Hawara is considered a high-risk prisoner, requiring police security. Officials will now decide whether to grant him custody parole or regular parole.
